Eco Schools

Over the past year, the Eco Council have identified an increase in the number of parents and carers driving to school and parking in or very close proximity to St Mary's Road. As well as being an environmental hazard, this also affects pupils walking or cycling to school by becoming a road safety issue.

In order to combat this, the Eco Council have created a Park and Walk map of the local area to improve the issues of traffic congestion (see below). This map illustrates two areas: local bus routes for people wishing to use public transport as well as park and walk zones. A park and walk zone is an area within 5-10 walk of the school where parents or carers can park their car and walk the rest of the way. Not only reduces carbon emmisions, and improve road safety for those pupils walking or cycling to school, it also enables our school to work towards its target of becoming an award winning Eco School. The Great British Spring Clean

HPA Great British Spring Clean 0

Hard working pupils at Herringham Primary Academy recently took part in the ‘Great British Spring Clean’. They took part as part of a nationwide activity to help tidy up the streets of their local community, and to make it a better place to live as well as improving the environment for local wildlife.

Every year group were given an area of Chadwell-St-Mary to visit and were given black sacks and gloves in order to collect rubbish from the streets. Many parents also took part in the clean-up to lend their support to the project.

Mrs Sam Otto, Head of School, said “Herringham Primary Academy are hoping to achieve the prestigious ‘Eco Award’ later on in the year and the spring clean will go towards the activities required to gain the award. They worked very hard and I am very proud of them.”
